Drive & Ride Dressage: An award will be presented to the entry with the highest combined score of the driven dressage test (from the CDE) and the ridden dressage test.  The rider and the driver must be the same individual - may be entered in the Training or Preliminary level of the CDE.  The ridden dressage test will be the USDF 2008 Training Level Test 1.  Test sent upon request.

Additional Dressage: We are offering additional dressage tests.  The additional dressage test needs to be one level higher than your competition test.


Training Level

This is an introduction to the sport for horse and driver.  The tests will acquaint competitors with the basic gaits, figures, and obstacles that are the foundation for all Combined Driving Events.  The entire experience should be pleasant and an encouragement to build confidence in horse and driver.

CONDITIONS

1.  The Competitor: A driver under the age of 14 must be accompanied in the carriage by a knowledgeable adult.  Either the horse or rider in any combination may not have completed (without elimination, withdrawal, or retirement) more that one CDE above the training level.  (i.e. it is permissible to enter a green horse with an experienced  driver, or an experienced horse with a green driver.)

2.  The Vehicle: Weight: no required weight; Track  Width: no standard track width; Lamps: required for Phase A only, if vehicle has brackets; Pneumatic tires: Training Level only.  Singles are not required to carry a groom/navigator in phase A &  C.  A groom/navigator is REQUIRED on the Marathon phase,

3.  Harness: Side checks are permitted.  Items of harness may not be changed between Presentation and Dressage.  The same style of whip must be carried in both Presentation and Dressage.

COMPETITIONS
PHASE A: PRESENTATION AND DRESSAGE

A1 PRESENTATION:  To be held as a separate section of Phase A and judged at the halt by one judge.  A safety check must be included.  The judge may allocate a maximum of 10 points each for this phase using the official ADS scoring form.

A2 DRESSAGE:  1994 ADS Training Level #4.  The small ring (40 x 80) will be used for Singles and Pairs.  VSE--30x60

PHASE B: MARATHON 3 SECTIONS:
  

  • A - ANY PACE - This drive is through a young Oregon Christmas Tree Farm with a lovely view of the mountain range set off by Mount Hood.

  • D - WALK

  •       VET CHECK   
  • E - TROT - Typically hilly for the Cascade Mountain Range, course maneuvers around large cedar and fir trees and through a year around creek several times.
  • Total Distance: 10km
    4 Hazards / 3 Gates per Hazard

    Two natural hazards and two constructed.  All with knockdowns.  All gates must be completed in order, even if a correction is necessary, under penalty of elimination, but no other penalties will be assessed for time limit.  Knockdown posts  are required.

    Preliminary Level

    Recommended for horses and drivers with some prior competition experience.   This is a moderate examination of horse and driver in a regular training program.   The test should encourage development of the basic gaits, obedience, suppleness, and balance.

    Canadian entries please make checks payable in 'U.S. Funds' for all fees and services at event.

    Saturday night chicken & ribs bar-b-que is $18.50 U.S. funds per person.  Please sign up on entry form.

    $25.00 Pasture/Paddock Cleaning Fee.  All manure is to be dumped at the designated area.  Please enclose a separate check.  If area is cleaned, your check will be returned by mail after the event.

    Self stabling is encouraged.  Stabling LIMITED!!  You must call for information - Tish Hodges 503-632-4966.

    Medical armbands will be required at Beavercreek.  Armbands will be for sale at the event office for $10.

    Entries close and must be postmarked no later than July 5, 2008.  All fees must be included with entry to be accepted.  ENTRY FEE REFUND POLICY: entry fee less $15.00 with veterinarian certification.

    General Information

    Camping is available on the grounds.  Water will be available.  Please provide your own container.
    ABSOLUTELY - NO OPEN FIRES WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE GROUNDS!

    If you insist on bringing your dog, it must be kept tied at your campsite at all times.  Sorry, but no exceptions.

    There will be a food stand on event site.  They will serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks during Saturday and Sunday.
